Exactly one year ago, my friend Marie visited me in London. So when she decided to study in Edinburg for a year, it was a sure thing that I was going to visit her too!
The first day I went to see the castle of course and did a free walking tour to find out about the mysteries, histories and ghost stories of Edinburgh.
The next day we went to see the glass houses of the Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh and walked around the lovely neighbourhood of Stockbridge.
We also did a Tour to Mary King’s Close. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures, but it’s a warren of underground streets and again we heard a lot about the cruel and mysterious times of Edinburgh. They just love stories about torture and ghosts!
The next day we wanted to enjoy some nature, so we hiked up Arthur’s Seat. It’s a dormant volcano, 251m above sea level. It was cold and windy, but we had an excellent view of the city.
We then went up to Calton Hill as well. Again we had a great view!
On my last day we had some nice scottish breakfast and I finally got to taste Haggis. Considering how disgusting we had imagined it to be, it turned out surprisingly good. A bit like Leberwurst. 😉
I really loved Edinburgh! No wonder J.K. Rowling found her inspiration for the Harry Potter books here. It’s a magical, wonderful place! 🙂
